Cover Story    Text: Lloyda Nicholas
He’s worked with some of the top names in the business, from Johannesburg to London, Paris and New York; written extensively about them; and has even had occasion to dress quite a few of them for photo shoots.

Names like Iman; Beverly Johnson; Naomi Campbell; Alek Wek; Tyra Banks; Jaunel McKenzie; Carla Campbell; Lene Hall; and Tenille Stoute come readily to mind, and even list among the close friendships he has cultivated over the years.

For the fashion-conscious amongst us from the ‘60s era, the name Walter Greene evokes fond memories of a bygone age of Guyanese pride, glamour and glitz.

Bold and feisty, Walter created quite a stir in local fashion circles back in 1968 when 20-year-old Alexis Harris, who went on to place sixth at the Miss World pageant later that year, was crowned Miss Guyana wearing one of his fabulous creations. Ok! I admit that I’ve never seen this gown, but, there must have been something exceptional about it, as my own mother has not stopped gushing since about it. click here to subscribe
